THE CARTOMANCER STORY STARTED IN 2018 with a successful Kickstarter campaign and wonderful honors from the playing cards community. When 52 Plus Joker named it 2018 Deck of the Year and United Cardists deemed it the 2018 Rookie Deck of the Year I felt supremely honored. That feeling has yet to fade away.

The Cartomancer Duality Project

While spending a lot of time with these cards, it struck me that the deck wouldn’t be complete without exploring its darker, hidden side. This pivotal thought was the seed for the Cartomancer Shadow Deck and eventually for the Cartomancer Duality Project, which features the original deck renamed “Clarity” and its new counterpart the “Shadow” deck.

WHY ARE THESE DECKS UNIQUE?

EACH card tells a story with an illustration made with multiple vintage engravings. The two decks make a set and complement each other like the sun and moon, painting the landscape of our lives in a beautifully nostalgic style. The result is a thought-provoking synergy between significance and design.

CARTOMANCY, DIVINATION? 

The Cartomancer decks use the existing structure of a standard deck of cards as a canvas for a new instinctive cartomancy system. ALL the cards feature universal archetypes and symbols making it a very instinctive tool for divination.

Each deck comes with its little white book, a 32 page black and white booklet the size of the box, containing an introduction to the deck, ideas for divination and keyword meanings for each card.
